Questions & Answers

Everything you might want to ask

Booking, pricing, DIY hire, set-up, wet weather and the areas we cover. If your question isn't here, message us — we answer every enquiry within 24 hours.

Booking & quotes

How do I get a quote?

Send us your event date, venue or suburb and roughly what you have in mind, either through the contact form, WhatsApp or email. We reply within 24 hours with availability and an itemised quote. If you have a budget range, tell us — we design to it rather than above it.

How far in advance should I book?

As soon as your date and venue are confirmed, particularly for peak wedding season. Popular dates go early. That said, we do take shorter-notice bookings when the diary allows, so it's always worth asking rather than assuming we're full.

How much does event styling cost in Melbourne?

It depends on the scale of the set-up, the venue and how much floral work is involved — a single backdrop hire and a fully styled three-day wedding are very different jobs. Rather than publish prices that wouldn't apply to your event, we quote per event, itemised, within 24 hours.

What deposit do you require, and when is the balance due?

A 30% deposit confirms your booking and secures the date in our calendar. The remaining balance is due 14 days before the event. Until the deposit is received the date stays available to other enquiries, so if you're deciding between suppliers it's worth telling us.

What happens if we need to cancel or postpone?

Deposits are non-refundable, because holding your date means turning other bookings away. If you need to postpone, we'll transfer your deposit to a new date wherever we're available. Cancellations made within 14 days of the event, once stock is allocated and staff are rostered, are charged in full.

Styling & design

Do you style both Indian and Western weddings?

Yes — that's the core of what we do. Mandap ceremonies, haldi, mehndi and sangeet alongside classic white weddings, which means couples blending two cultures can use one stylist for the whole weekend rather than briefing two suppliers who have never worked together.

Do you style events other than weddings?

Yes. Baby showers, birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, Diwali and festival functions, corporate events and community celebrations are all part of our regular work, at homes as well as venues.

Can you match our colours and theme?

Yes. Drapery, florals, linen and props are all chosen with you. Send through Pinterest links, Instagram saves or photos of anything you've liked — working from images you've already responded to is far more useful than describing colours in words.

Do you provide flowers, or do we book a florist separately?

Floral work is included in our styling — marigold installations, arch and backdrop florals, centrepieces and aisle arrangements are quoted as part of the design. If you already have a florist you want to use, we're happy to work alongside them.

Do you use fresh or artificial flowers?

Both, depending on your budget, the season and how long the set-up needs to hold. Fresh flowers have a look and scent artificial ones can't match; artificial florals cost less and survive a hot Melbourne day better. We'll tell you honestly which suits your event.

Hire & DIY

Can I hire décor without booking full styling?

Yes. Everything in our hire catalogue is available as DIY hire, so you can take individual pieces — backdrops, props, plinths, centrepieces, signage — and style them yourself. It's the most cost-effective route for smaller celebrations at home.

Is there a minimum hire amount?

There's no minimum for items you collect yourself — hire a single backdrop or a handful of props if that's all you need. Delivered and installed orders carry a minimum hire value, which covers the vehicle and crew time; we'll confirm it when you send through your list.

Do you deliver hire items, or do we collect?

Larger frames and anything we're dressing are delivered and installed by us, then collected afterwards. Smaller DIY hire items can usually be collected, which keeps the cost down. We'll confirm which applies when you book.

Is there a bond on hire items, and what happens if something is damaged?

A refundable bond applies to DIY hire, held against loss or damage and returned within seven days of the items coming back. Normal wear and tear is expected and never charged for. Anything broken, badly stained or not returned is deducted from the bond at replacement cost, and we'll always show you what and why.

On the day

Do you handle set-up and pack-down?

For full-service bookings, yes — delivery, installation, styling and pack-down after the event are all included. Nothing is left for your family to deal with at the end of the night.

Can you work with our venue's bump-in and bump-out times?

Yes. We coordinate directly with your venue's events team on access windows and floor protection, and can send our certificate of currency for public liability insurance, which most Melbourne venues require before allowing suppliers on site.

Can you style an event at a private home instead of a venue?

Yes, and we do it often — haldi mornings, baby showers and birthdays are frequently at home. Back yards, driveways, garages and living rooms all work. We check access, ground surface and power beforehand and bring everything needed to set up and clear away.

What happens if it rains for an outdoor event?

We talk through a wet-weather plan before the day, so there's an agreed indoor or covered alternative rather than a decision made in a panic on the morning. Some installations can be moved quickly; others need the call made earlier, and we'll tell you which is which when we design it.

Can you style more than one event across a wedding weekend?

Yes, and it's one of the main reasons couples choose us. A haldi on Friday, a ceremony under a mandap on Saturday and a reception on Sunday can all be styled by the same team and designed as one coherent look rather than three unrelated set-ups.

Areas & credentials

Which areas of Melbourne do you cover?

We work across metropolitan Melbourne. Most of our events are in the South-East — Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley, Clayton, Dandenong, Berwick, Narre Warren and Cranbourne — and we also travel to the western and northern suburbs, the CBD, and venues in the Yarra Valley and on the Mornington Peninsula. A travel fee may apply outside metropolitan Melbourne.

Are you insured?

Yes. Gather n Grace holds public liability insurance and is ABN registered (ABN 42 931 253 013). Many Melbourne venues ask suppliers for a certificate of currency before they'll allow a bump-in, and we can provide ours on request.
